Wondering about the glowing reviews

Doesn’t say a lot for a book in which I lost total interest in the last couple of hours. It certainly dragged out. The chapters were far too long. I fell asleep and missed the end and really can’t be bothered to go back to it. Just wanted the dark and dreary to end.
I did however, wake up enough to hear the author explaining the book, in my view, I prefer not to have it explained to me thanks.
Another best forgotten.

I might come back to it at some later date but oh boy it is grim.
Got about 2 hours from the end and couldn’t stand the darkness anymore.
If you want to read about somebody held captive in a room during lockdown...then go ahead, but it’s very depressing, even without lockdown it’s too much. The worst possible things that can happen to a person goes on here. Don’t think it will be a very happy ending either.
Just going to read something about birds singing and spring now or take an anti depressant. Wish I hadn’t wasted a credit on it.

Apparently ok to dispose of a body, covering up up for someone else’s crime and years later still get away with it.......not believable ...story needs a lot more reality.
Stuck with it but wish I hadn’t bothered.

At last a great story and loved the narrator, who made it believable and intriguing.
Highly recommend.

the last half was very droning and nearly seemed like a different story.
You read it from at the start what I suppose was the victims point of view but then from the the police detective which then is confusing as you don’t know who you are supposed to be following. No twists as you already know what happens. The story drones on and on from the last half of the book and you begin to wish it was the end already.
While the detective very very slowly works out what happened then bringing in his personal life which all seemed a bit half hearted and had no point to the story. Which you know already.
Feel the author got lost half way through and changed the concept of the book altogether. And couldn’t make up their minds who this was about.
Somewhere there is a page turner out there, for me this definitely isn’t one.

I can’t tell you how many times I nodded off during this story.
Nothing happens from start to finish.
A slight twist but really one big yawn.
Narrators are fantastic and the only reason I kept listening.
But no excitement here.
Oh and to the author, no long trips to Brisbane from here. You have to stop half way as it’s so far, only a couple of direct flights as an experiment in recent times just a niggle on getting the facts right. So you wouldn’t necessarily still be sitting with the same passengers you started off with. Beings this was seemingly an important part of this weird story.
If you like a thriller mystery, give this one a miss.

Without being too insulting to the narrator, you can’t do female voices

Please don’t put on voices like this.

This book is hard work. I had guessed the culprit about half way through, I would give it 5 stars for dreariness as it just droned on and on. With no surprises at the end, in fact I didn’t quite understand the end, I fell asleep twice and had to replay it but still didn’t get it.
With all of the acknowledgments (a chapter of its own ) it sounded hard work from the authors point of view to get it finished and she seemed to need a lot of help. What a lot of people to thank.....drifted off here too.
It’s only saving grace is Amelia Fox as narrator and probably the only reason I kept listening and of course not to feel I had wasted my credit. But yes I have wasted my credit.
What was the point of the police in this?
About as pointless as the book. So I guess that at least makes sense.

The story is quite dreary, the narrative definitely is. Nothing happens for most of the book, but when it does you sort of miss it as the narrator just drones on in the same slow tone.
Another wasted credit and I feel so dreary.
