The book started slowly but soon had me gripped. The story has a huge scope and is masterfully crafted, much like its subject matter. John Lee’s performance is excellent and really brought the rich characters to life. Thoroughly recommended.

Stephen Fry reads this so well

I chose this audiobook because, to be honest, I needed something really long, but of interest, to keep me going during a long recovery from an injury. I wasn't sure how good the original Sherlock Holmes books would be, but the stories are a really easy, but entertaining listen, brought alive by Stephen Fry who's love of Holmes is evident. His characterisations are excellent - spot on and very consistent (unlike some other audiobook series where the characters have changed accent and even nationality between books). 72 hours of audiobook later, which lasted me at least 2 months, I have certainly had incredible value for money (or 1 credit) and have been thoroughly entertained along the way. There are the odd bits where the attitudes at the time this was written grate with modern sensibilities, but they do at least show how some things have moved on for the better.
Overall, thoroughly recommended.

I have really enjoyed the GOT audiobooks so far, but the performances here seem a bit tired. The material probably isn’t ideal audiobook material and I didn’t find it an easy listen. Probably great as a book to dip into.
