American narrator for an English book?

Why is the narrator American?! The book is set in England, all of the characters are English... but it is read in an American accent and all of the characters’ voices are over the top posh English, they all sound the same. The only ones who it’s feasible to have posh accents are Clementine and her mother, all the other characters should speak normally.

Hats off to Jenny Frame for another wonderful story, but this audiobook is really let down by the narrator.

I’ve been looking forward to this book for so long... I was sad when Jae said that it wasn’t likely to be made into an audiobook (and she had very kindly gifted me a copy of the ebook which I was planning to read on our flight to San Francisco last year) but then I learned that it was going to recorded for audio and I decided to wait for the audio version.
In just the first few minutes I wasn’t in my little house in the UK, I was on the pier looking out across the bay to Alcatraz Island with the sound of the sea lions singing. Thank you Jae.

Another good lesbian billionaire book

Excellent story as usual by this author. A different spin on the lesbian billionaire/sugar baby trope.

I just wanted to point out an anomaly which I’m guessing to be a typo in the book, perhaps it was ‘find and replace’ error in the editing stage: The word ‘women’ has been replaced every time by ‘woman’. It just doesn’t make sense that the narrator didn’t question it when she was reading the manuscript, nor has it been picked up when the audio has been approved. How did this slip through the cracks?

All the feels.

Gosh, that got me right in the feels. I was expecting a reasonably lighthearted romance but I actually got pretty choked up with the history of what happened during Reese’s childhood and how she thought everything was her fault.

Wow, I’m not really sure what to say. I loved this book, it was wonderfully involved with a unique storyline and captivating characters. I feel bereft that I’ve finished it.

As always, I loved the story. Thank you Jae for writing another brilliant book.

Angela Dawe is my favourite narrator so I really hate to say it but I just couldn’t get used to Sacha’s voice, I couldn’t reconcile the tone of her voice with how her character is described. I have to give it to Ms Dawe she maintained the voice that she used for Sacha when she was a supporting character in the first Fairoaks book, which doesn’t always happen when a supporting character becomes a main character in a later book in the series.

The book switches point of view between the two main characters, and this was the first audiobook I’ve listened to with two narrators. It took some getting use to as I was expecting each narrator to voice their own character throughout but they each did all the voices in their POV section.

Really enjoyed the story.

I really enjoyed the story, it was just a shame about the narration.

I don’t agree with the reviewers who have said that the editing of the narration is poor. The problem with the narration is the tone of voice that is used by the narrator. It is a very American accent where the tone of voice changes at the end of the sentence, another reviewer said that it went up at the end of each sentence which made everything sound like a question. I’m not sure I agree with this, I think that the tone of voice actually goes down at the end of the sentence. There is pretty much no difference made to differentiate the voices of the individual characters. The only character who is given an individual voice is Georgia who has a southern drawl, but sometimes the narrator seems to forget that the other characters don’t have that accent and gives them all a southern drawl.

I persevered with the audiobook for the sake of the story but it was sometimes difficult to tell which character was speaking.

I preserved with this book for the sake of the story which I really enjoyed.

However the quality of the narration was terrible, you could hear where the edits had been spliced in and the volume levels kept jumping up and down. I also found that the narrator’s narration voice was a very nasally American accent, her character voices were fine.

I loved this book. I really enjoyed the dynamic of Claire and Alex’s relationship. It was a nice change to have a butch main character, especially one who took charge in the bedroom too.

This book is definitely not safe to listen to at work. There are a lot of very hot sex scenes, in fact I initially thought that I’d accidentally downloaded a collection of erotic short stories but this is a full novel.

Once I was a couple of hours into the book I encouraged my wife to download it too and she also really enjoyed it.

The narrator’s voice sounded very young which was a little bit off putting at first for a book with a lot of sex in it but she did do different voices for the two main characters. I got used to her sounding like a sixteen year old after a while.
