William D. (Bill) Auman has worn many hats during his career. Known by most as a trial and appellate attorney, he has handled roughly 70 murder cases and tried over 250 cases throughout his legal career, which spanned 1986-2025. An honors graduate of N.C. State University, Campbell University Law School, and Western Carolina University (where he received his M.P.A.), he has also served as a college professor for 25 years at both UNC-Asheville and Mars Hill University. In what he terms his "previous life," he was at times a USPTR Tennis Professional, high school tennis coach, and an AAU/high school basketball coach. Now that his legal career has ended, he enjoys the self-described role of "hillbilly beachbum" and calls both the NC mountains and New Port Richey, Florida home. He is married to his wife of over 40 years and is the proud father of two and grandfather to three. His first book, "Pioneer Paddling Colonial Carolina," was published in 2010, with his mystery novel "If Trees Could Testify" initially released in 2021. An audiobook version was subsequently published through Stone Table Media in 2025.. The novel was honored in December of 2022 with a Literary Titan Gold Award. His new book, "Pioneer Paddles of the Colonial South," is available for preorder on Amazon with a scheduled release day of March 31, 2026.
