Teresa Thornhill is a writer and retired barrister. Her new book, Sheila: Portrait of an Unknown Artist, is a memoir about her mother, the portrait painter Sheila Denning. Framed in the context of the struggles experienced by many twentieth century women artists to gain recognition for their work, Sheila is published by Dornberger Books. In Harm's Way: the Memoir of a Child Protection Lawyer was published by HarperCollins non-fiction in 2024. Teresa describes her working life representing parents, children and local authorities and gives her views about the child protection system. Teresa's previous books have a Middle Eastern focus. They include Sweet Tea with Cardamom: A Journey through Iraqi Kurdistan, Pandora/Harper Collins 1997; The Curtain Maker of Beirut: Conversations with the Lebanese, Berkshire Academic Press 2010; and Hara Hotel: A Tale of Syrian Refugees in Greece, Verso, 2018.
