I was born in Denver, Colorado but as soon as I was 18, I moved to New York City attending Juilliard and Barnard College. After a career in the modern dance companies of Jose Limon, Paul Taylor and Merce Cunningham, I had a five year stint in publishing, then years as a producer, director and writer of hour documentaries at CBS News. Somewhat later I transitioned to writing--magazine articles and, most recently books. My main interest is non-fiction, particularly history. An early book, Resisting Hitler: Mildred Harnack and the Red Orchestra has been optioned for a feature film. It was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the German edition was selected as one of the five best books of the year by the critics. British historian Andrew Roberts wrote "Resisting Hitler is one of the best researched books on the Second World War that I have ever read. The author, a distinguished American journalist has visited no fewer than 46 archives and made superb use of recently declassified documents from the KGB, CIA, FBI and Nazi intelligence services." The books written together with my husband Karl E. Meyer have frequently been named best books of the year by the Washington Post and Notable Books bt the NY Times.
