About the Author

Sarab Zavaleta is an American photographer, writer, filmmaker, and journalist whose creative work bridges cultures and human stories. Born in India and fluent in six languages, she brings a uniquely global perspective to every project she undertakes. She co-produced the award-winning film Altered Minds (2013), starring Judd Hirsch, and currently serves on the Executive Board of the Foreign Press Association in New York City.

Her diverse career includes work as a film editor at the United Nations, hosting for the cable TV network Bombay Productions, and leading UNICEF charity events. She has also been involved in Sikh cultural initiatives in America. Her photography and writing have appeared in Lifestyle (Italy), Black Tie Magazine, Times of India Magazine, and India Abroad.

A proud mother of three grown children, Sarab released Marcelo by Marcelo (2024), a moving biography of her neurodivergent son that offers readers an intimate look into his world and perspective. She hopes to adapt the story into an educational film.

Her short film Amritsar Junction, inspired by her family’s experiences during the 1947 Partition of India, has earned international recognition, winning awards at Jaipur, FOLCS, and Los Angeles film festivals.
