Roy Remer, Executive Director of the Zen Caregiving Project (formerly Zen Hospice Project), has been an end-of-life caregiver and educator since 1997. He began his journey by training with Zen Hospice Project as a volunteer caregiver, serving at the bedside for six years at the Guest House facility and then for seven years at San Francisco’s Laguna Honda Hospital’s Palliative Care Ward. In 2008, he furthered his expertise by completing a yearlong end-of-life caregiver training at the Metta Institute in Sausalito, CA. A dedicated practitioner of the Soto Zen tradition and a student at the San Francisco Zen Center, Roy is a certified instructor of Compassion Cultivation Training (CCT©). This certification was earned through the Stanford University Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) and the Compassion Institute. Beyond his work with Zen Caregiving Project, Roy also leads wilderness-based rites of passage programs in collaboration with EarthWaysLLC of Sebastopol, CA, and serves on the board of directors for Enso Village in Healdsburg, CA.
