Dr. Ralph Keeney has made significant contributions to many aspects of decision-making. His career has focused on the development, application, and dissemination of useful decision-making concepts, techniques, and insights that help individuals, businesses, organizations, and governments make smarter decisions. Dr. Keeney is currently actively involved in teaching workshops and delivering courses on practical decision-making skills, as well as writing and speaking about this critically important topic. Why is this critically important? Because the only way for you to purposefully improve your life, the circumstances of family members or friends, your business, or your community is by making better and smarter decisions. Prior to writing Give Yourself a Nudge, Keeney's previous book Smart Choices, received two national awards and is translated into more than 20 languages. His earlier books Value-Focused Thinking and Decisions with Multiple Objectives, also each received a national reward. Keeney is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, has a doctorate from MIT and an honorary doctorate from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Ralph Keeney was born and raised in Lewistown, Montana. He received a BS degree in engineering from UCLA and a PhD from MIT. After five years as a member of MIT’s faculty of engineering and MIT’s Sloan School of Management, Dr. Keeney worked full time at an international institute in Vienna and then seven years at a large engineering-environmental consulting firm in San Francisco, where he founded and managed the decision and risk analysis group. There he learned by experience how important decisions are made and how to best help businesses, organizations, and individuals who are facing important decisions. This experiential knowledge has been used since then as a professor at the University of Southern California and subsequently at the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University, and on a wide range of consulting projects for business and government decisions.
