Pepsi Demacque-Crockett enjoyed a long and fulfilling career within the entertainment industry through the 80s and 90s, as well as being part of the popular pop band Wham! and later part of the duo Pepsi & Shirlie, which allowed her to travel the world and perform at the highest level. Her debut novel - Island Song - is inspired by her parents' experience when they arrived and settled in West London in the 1950s. She grew up in a vibrant community where there was always talk about the beautiful island of Saint Lucia, where she now lives. Island Song is a love letter to those who left their villages in the Caribbean to cross the Atlantic Ocean, a tribute to those brave ones who decided to travel to the unknown with a vow to return to their families, but do they? Island Song is the story of two sisters. One sister who found the courage to leave and the other who must find the courage to live. Pepsi's memoir It's All in Black and White was written with her singing partner, Shirlie Kemp, and covers their shared experience in the 1980s – a time of glitter, big hair and pop music – when they toured the world as supporting members of Wham! before finding their own voices, as Pepsi and Shirlie, in their own right. Best known for hits such as 'Heartache' and 'Goodbye Stranger', the duo share their side of the story for the first time ever. Their remarkable friendship has withstood the test of time, fame and distance. From the highs of touring with Wham!, the parting of ways between George and Andrew, through going out there together as their own pop duo and much else thereafter. It's All in Black and White is a story of music, love, heartbreak, determination and, above all, the unbreakable bond of friendship.
