Paul Carey Jones was born in Cardiff, to an Irish mother and a Welsh father: the Careys are from County Mayo, the Joneses from Carmarthenshire. He was a pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Melin Gruffydd and Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Glantaf, and read Physics at The Queen’s College, Oxford. He returned as a teacher to Ysgol Glantaf before embarking on a full-time singing career in 1998 by studying at the Royal Academy of Music and the National Opera Studio in London. He has appeared as a principal guest artist for opera companies across Europe, and has released three solo song albums. His first book Giving It Away - Classical Music in Lockdown and other fairytales was published in 2020, followed by a second collection of essays on opera, Things Left Unsung, in December 2025. Paul has been a volunteer member of the core group of Freelancers Make Theatre Work since 2021, and was their Data and Communications Manager from 2023-25. He is also currently a doctoral researcher at the School of Computer Science and Engineering of the University of Westminster, London, and a published academic author in the field of the use of Artificial Intelligence in vocal healthcare.
