After seven years of working as a librarian in New Zealand and overseas, Nikki is now settled in the Waikato and, along with writing, works as a freelance proofreader and copy editor.
Nikki has been writing on and off her whole life and before she turned to crime writing had success in flash fiction. She has been published in 'Bonsai: Best Small Fictions from Aotearoa New Zealand', and 'Fresh Ink' anthologies, and in 2023 was awarded 2nd place in the Bath Flash Fiction Award for her story 'Walking to Wollongong'.
Crime/thriller/mystery novels are Nikki's passion (both reading then and writing them), with isolated settings and small towns a big feature. 'Nothing Bad Happens Here', her first novel, is set on the Coromandel Coast of New Zealand. It was a finalist in the 2018 Ngaio Marsh Award for best first novel. The follow up to this, The Murder Club, was a finalist in the 2020 Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Novel. All of Nikki's other novels were long-listed for the Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Novel.
'Nothing Bad Happens Here' and 'To the Sea' have both been optioned for TV.
