Nicole Conn has been a die-hard romantic and devotee of black-and-white films since she was nine. Decades of writing books and making movies have done little to discourage her belief in love, although love has certainly provided sufficient material.

An award-winning author, filmmaker, and mother, Conn creates stories about desire, identity, family, and the complicated business of opening our hearts. Her novel Descending Thirds brings those passions into the fiercely competitive world of classical music—a sweeping story of genius, ambition, secrets, and love. Inspired in part by her mother, a classical pianist and teacher, the novel holds a particularly personal place in her work.

The audiobook, narrated by Mary Jane Wells, weaves classical music and recordings of Conn’s mother into the storytelling, bringing her cinematic sensibility to the listening experience. Descending Thirds is also in development as a nine-part limited television series.

Conn’s books include Passion’s Shadow and Angel Wings, published by Simon & Schuster; The Wedding Dress; She Walks in Beauty; and the novelizations of her films Claire of the Moon and Elena Undone. She also co-authored The Preemie Parent’s NICU Survival Guide.

Her filmmaking career began with the landmark lesbian romance Claire of the Moon, which became an international cult classic. She went on to write and direct Elena Undone, A Perfect Ending, and More Beautiful for Having Been Broken, building a devoted audience for emotionally intimate stories that place women—and women loving women—at their center.

Her award-winning documentary little man chronicles the premature birth of her son, Nicholas, who arrived 100 days early, weighing just one pound. The film remains among her most personal works, reflecting the love, vulnerability, and stubborn hope that run through her storytelling.

Conn’s other projects include Blue Love Dance – A CineRomance and the dating series Coming Out for Love. She is currently developing her next feature, do we not grieve.

Through every chapter, motherhood comes first. Romance, against all available evidence, remains a close second.
