I've been told I write in with modern classic style, although I'm not exactly sure what that means. I write in a style similar to the books I like to read and, although my extensive reading list changes from time to time, there are certain qualities I value in a book: compelling characters, a decent story line, forward movement—including growth in the characters—and that sense of a realistic world, even for fantasy and scifi stories. My recent favorite reads include: The Golden Compass (trilogy, called "His Dark Matter"), Sunshine, the King Killer Chronicles, and of course I have long-time favorites, including Tolkien, Steinbeck (a favorite American author), and others. The list is too extensive. I usually post a few chapters from each of my books on my web site—roughly the same length as can be found here, but the samples can be downloaded in pdf format. I think it's only fair that a reader have a chance to see if he or she or they have a good feeling about the style before committing to a purchase.
