Like many teenagers, my ambition was to be a lyricist. My first serious poem was written when I was 18, concerned for the mental health of my father. We lost him the following year. I qualified as an auctioneer and valuer of antiques and have worked in this field for the past 35 years. Throughout these decades I have written only at times of great change - usually marriage, divorce or death! I once had the privilege of selling six short handwritten poems by Ted Hughes. Subsequently, his widow telephoned me, exclaiming that the poems had sold for far more than they were ever worth. During this past year I have rediscovered the urgent need to create and have applied myself to the compilation of a collection of poems entitled 'Of Love And Loss And Something In Between'. This Kindle book contains the first 20. Most have been written recently, but some date from those milestone events in my life. 'Walnut Curls' was produced almost 25 years ago when I first met my wife, Judith. In 2015, Love Poetry (USA) website selected 'Walnut Curls' as one of their poems of the month. The text is set against photographic images of the beautiful county of Devon. My writing aims for the heart and soul. I hope you enjoy.
