Michael Allan Cain writes crime fiction built on a single promise: play fair with the reader, every time.

His Charlie Pike series follows a burned-out Orlando private investigator working the seam between the theme-park dream factory and the people it chews up relentless, sharp-eyed, and always solvable if you're paying attention. The debut, The Happiest Place to Die, is a fair-play murder mystery set in the world's happiest theme park, where three deaths the park would rather call accidents share one chilling signature. Every clue Charlie finds, the reader finds too: no hidden cards, no last-page cheat, just one question can you name the killer before he does?

Cain writes for readers who still like to play along every clue earned, every suspect in reach, every solution something you could have reached first. Book Two in the Charlie Pike series, Still Waters, is on the way.
