As a child growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Marcus enjoyed writing short stories and poetry. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he majored in English. After earning his Master’s Degree from the Ohio State University, Marcus became a secondary English teacher, then returned to OSU to pursue his Ph.D. He has taught for Ohio State for more than twenty years, currently at the Marion Campus. After a brief stint as managing editor for a local magazine, Marcus began writing in earnest around 2008. He wrote screenplays for a decade, and his works performed well in a number of prestigious international competitions. In 2018, Marcus turned to novel writing, and in 2020, his first effort, Everything Counts, was named a finalist in the Ohio Writers’ Association Great Novel Contest. The Pop Tart Insurrection, published in 2021, humorously examines both Generation Z and the society that they will one day inherit. The sequel to that story, Jock Sniff America, published in 2023, takes a satirical look at America's sometimes unhealthy obsession with sports. Check out Marcus' website, www.marcusherzberg.com, for more information about him and his writing.
