Madeleine Van Hecke, PhD writes dark novels that focus on what contemporary women fear (and often condemn) to help them better navigate the shadow side of life. A psychologist, former college professor, and author of two nonfiction books, Van Hecke has returned to her first love of fiction during her retirement years. Once You Know, her debut novel, was named First Place Winner in Women's Fiction: 2020 Incipere Awards. Her nonfiction books include Blind Spots (Prometheus Press, 2007) and The Brain Advantage (Prometheus Press, 2011). She taught courses in psychology, creativity, and critical thinking for twenty years at North Central College in Naperville, IL, lectured at Common Ground in Deerfield, IL, and invented the game Wicked Words. She is a member of the Women's Fiction Writers' Association and divides her time between the Chicago area and Florida.
