M. E. Flatow lived in Sydney from 1994 to 1996, a teenager from North Carolina set down in a city of harbor ferries and surf beaches. Three decades later, that city became the heart of Ocean Child, M. E.'s debut novel.

By day, M. E. is a trial lawyer in Charlotte, North Carolina, who has tried more than a hundred cases and built a career advocating for clients, particularly women, by turning hard facts into stories judges and juries can follow. The same instinct drives the fiction: the secrets families keep, and what those secrets cost the people who inherit them.

M. E. travels whenever the court calendar allows. Favorite cities include Sydney, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich, and Vancouver.
