Leonard Gill has lived more than one lifetime’s worth of adventure. After serving over thirty years as a Police Officer in Merseyside and Yorkshire, he traded the beat for the wider world—working as an International Development Consultant for the British Government, the United Nations, and the International Committee of the Red Cross. His work took him to some of the planet’s most challenging places—failed and conflict-torn states across Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia—where he witnessed both the best and worst of humanity. A lifelong student of Roman history, Leonard has a particular fascination with the turbulent transition from Roman Britain to the Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy and the Welsh polities of the sixth century. This passion fuels his acclaimed Evening of Empire Trilogy—Evening of Empire, The Twilight’s Last Gleaming, and Dawn’s Early Light—an epic exploration of loyalty, legend, and the last embers of empire. Some of his most intriguing characters live on in companion short stories—Nova Fines, Aegyptus, The Golden Horn, and The Silk Road—which expand the world of the trilogy. Leonard’s latest work, The Roads to Golgotha, takes a bold detour through history. Reimagining the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ through the eyes of a lawman, Leonard draws on his decades of operational policing and intelligence work to bring a uniquely procedural perspective to one of history’s most pivotal events. His published works also include a heartfelt memoir, Leave Me a Line...: A Memoir, and a charming children’s picture book, Grandad’s Wild Welsh Tractor Adventure, also available in Welsh. Never one to rest on past glories, Leonard is currently at work on The Collected Quests of Morlinus the Druid, a delightfully eccentric new series inspired by the comic genius of Douglas Adams, Terry Jones, and Terry Pratchett. The first volume is expected in late 2026. Leonard and his wife raised six children, now scattered across the globe—some of whom, he admits, may have found their way into his novels in more ways than one. All of Leonard’s books are available on Amazon, Apple Books, and in audiobook format on Audible.
