Kostya Kennedy is an Editorial Director at Dotdash Meredith, where he oversees special editions across numerous brands including LIFE, People, Real Simple, Health, Entertainment Weekly and EatingWell. He's a former Senior Writer and Assistant Managing Editor at Sports Illustrated and has been a staff writer at Newsday and contributed to The New York Times and The New Yorker among others. He earned an M.S. from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, from which he received a Pulitzer Fellowship. He has taught in the graduate journalism programs at Columbia and at N.Y.U. and has done frequent television and radio work. Kennedy is the author of the New York Times' bestsellers, 56: Joe DiMaggio and the Last Magic Number in Sports (a finalist for the PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing) and Pete Rose: An American Dilemma, both of which received the CASEY Award as the best baseball book of its respective year. His other books include 2016's Lasting Impact: One Team, One Season, What Happens When Our Sons Play Football, and 2022's True: The Four Seasons of Jackie Robinson. Kennedy grew up on Long Island. Before Columbia, he graduated with honors as a philosophy major from Stony Brook University where he played exactly one game in the school's rogue bloodsport, pit hockey. Kennedy also played bass guitar in the specialty rock band Rychyrd Prychyrd. He lives with his wife and children in New York.
