Jonathan Slaght is the author of Tigers Between Empires (FSG, 2025) and Owls of the Eastern Ice (FSG, 2020), the latter of which won the PEN/E. O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award and the Minnesota Book Award for General Nonfiction in 2021, and was long-listed for the National Book Award in 2020. He is an expert on endangered species of northeast Asia, and works as the regional director of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Temperate Asia Program, overseeing programs in China, Mongolia, and Afghanistan, and projects in Russia and Central Asia. His writings and work have been featured in The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian, BBC World Service, NPR, and Scientific American, among others.
