John Van der Kiste read Librarianship at Ealing Technical College, where he edited the student librarian journal Stamp Out. The author of about a hundred books, including historical and royal biography, popular music, true crime, local history, plays and fiction, he has also contributed articles to and reviewed books and records for local and national publications, was a consultant to the BBC documentary 'The King, the Kaiser and the Tsar', and is a contributor to 'Oxford Dictionary of National Biography', 'Guinness Rockopaedia', and Iain Dale's 'Kings and Queens'. He lives in Devon, and his spare time interests include reading, music and painting. His latest titles are 'The Children of Charles II', 'Everyone's a Winner: The Story of a Punk Band called London', and 'On Track: Gerry Rafferty, Every Album, Every Song'. He has edited 'The Letters of Princess Alice to Queen Victoria, 1862-1878', due for publication in late 2025, contributed the foreword to a new edition of Prince Andrew of Greece's 'Towards Disaster', and written an article on General Gordon for 'The Generals', edited by Iain Dale, due in 2026.
