Joe is fluent in English, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. He plays the guitar, sings, composes, and records music. He is also an innovative home chef with a special interest in ancient and indigenous foods. He is a DIY solar power installer. He is a builder and, with his wife, created three tiny cottages complete with power and plumbing.
When he is not writing, you can often find Joe in the garden, behind a camera or drone capturing nature and family in photos and video, or designing hands-on projects like treehouses and inventive play structures. His curiosity has taken him to all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, to every continent, to 45 countries, and through seven places he has called home.
Joe has served as a senior executive at technology companies including HP and Johnson Controls, and his writing has ranged from blogging to fiction. He is happiest with his wife, their seven children and spouses, and 29 grandchildren. Temperamentally Joe is naturally upbeat, natively curious, loves history, and finds humor in everyday life.
