I’m the founder of the School Avoidance Alliance, created after my son’s 4-year struggle with school avoidance, a deeply isolating experience. Back then, few professionals treated it and most schools hadn’t heard the term. I set out to change that. Since then, we've trained thousands of educators to reengage students absent for weeks, months, even years, and empowered families through our Master Class. Our courses and advocacy are shifting how schools and families understand and respond to school avoidance, replacing blame with compassion and strategy. I speak nationally to educators, mental health professionals, and youth advocates, and serve as a founding member of Attendance USA and the International Network for School Attendance. My work has been featured in outlets like The Washington Post, USA Today, Education Week, and ADDitude Magazine. Changing how we respond to school avoidance isn’t optional—it’s life-saving.
