My name is James P. Baynes and I've been a police officer for over (25) years. The first (9) years I was a patrol officer and loved the work. I went on to become a Major Crimes detective, starting out in Youth and Family (investigating crimes committed by and against children, including domestic assaults and elder abuse) and then into the Homicide unit. I've been an avid reader for (30) years, with my favorite novels being ones written by and about cops. In the Danny and Park series, the city they work for is the same city I grew up in, Richmond (VA). Richmond is a growing, vibrant and increasingly diverse city. As such, I limit mentioning the race of my characters because good people and bad people come in all different shades. The meat of a crime is the crime itself, not the color of the perpetrator. I've also taken a few liberties with the geography of the city itself, so bear with me if you're a Richmond resident. As this is my first novel, there may be some editing issues, though hopefully not too many. Please bear with those as well. While the first novel, Reggie's Run, is fictional, future novels will include real cases from my time with the police department. Richmond residents may recognize them, but all the names and some of the details will be changed. I hope you enjoy the first novel and will be interested in following Danny and Park on future cases.
