Heather Yates, author of the Fractured Nation series, is a passionate storyteller fascinated by the many ways people see the world. Raised on a family homestead in a small Adirondack town before moving to the Boston area for college, she quickly discovered just how different—and yet deeply human—our perspectives can be. A graduate of Gordon College with a degree in Biology, Heather later worked at a large university, where daily interactions with people from diverse backgrounds deepened her understanding of how individuals interpret the same events in vastly different ways. These experiences came into sharp focus during the 2024 presidential campaign, when she saw friends and loved ones take passionate, opposing stances. It inspired her debut novel, Collapse of Freedom (December 2024), which explores how the meaning of “freedom” shifts depending on one’s values and lived experiences. Heather writes with the conviction that if we cannot seek to understand each other, we risk not only fracturing our nation but also the relationships that sustain us. She is currently at work on Book Two in the Fractured Nation series, slated for release in November 2025, which follows the characters and communities as they struggle to rebuild in the wake of upheaval.
