David Leser has been a journalist for more years than he cares to remember. He began his career on the Sydney Daily Telegraph in 1979 and over the ensuing 45 years worked in the Middle East, North America, Europe, Asia and Australia where he was a staff writer for a number of leading Australian magazines. David's passion for books and writing probably began with his name - LESER - [pronounced Lazer: German for "reader".] His father was the late Bernard Leser, German-born Jewish founder of Australian Vogue and his mother, Barbara, a music journalist and book seller, still playing piano at the age of 95. David has lived and worked in Sydney, Melbourne, New Orleans, Washington D.C., Paris, Jerusalem and Byron Bay, but believes that - because he was probably an Irishman in a previous life - will one day base himself in County Kerry. He is the author of seven books, including his memoir To Begin To Know, which was shortlisted for the 2015 National Biography Award, as well as his most recent book Women, Men and the Whole Damn Thing, about patriarchy, misogyny and toxic masculinity in the age of #MeToo. David has a passion for singing and playing guitar and was the executive producer of the award-winning documentary on Australian singer/songwriter Paul Kelly: Stories of Me. Currently a regular contributor to Good Weekend magazine and opinion writer for the Sydney Morning Herald and Melbourne Age, he is happily ruminating on his next book project from his beachside home in Sydney, Australia.
