Ever since participating in the Young Authors program in elementary school, Connie knew she wanted to be a writer. An avid reader and writer all her life, she decided to become an English teacher and share her love for literacy with the next generation. She now teaches middle school English Language Arts (ELA). In recent years, Connie noticed a void on bookshelves: novels with protagonists that are 13-16 years old. Connie wondered why there weren’t more stories about young teens and those formative end-of-middle-school and beginning-of-high-school years. That, along with Connie’s love for the outdoors and sports, inspired her to write Rapid City Summer. It’s the book Connie wished she had growing up—a story showcasing a strong female protagonist taking on unexpected and empowering endeavors.
