Thank you for taking the time to find out a little more about me. I was born and raised in North Yorkshire, and have lived in the North York Moors National Park for over thirty years with my wife and four sons who have now grown up (in theory!) We have a three hundred year old cottage, idyllically set amidst a moorland landscape that is the haunt of grouse and curlew. As a child, I was lucky to grow up in a household that valued books and reading, so I was immersed in literature from an early age. I have followed a career in teaching, whilst continuing to write as time allowed. Now, with more time at my disposal, I have been able to apply my qualifications in history and a particular interest in local history into the writing of the Gifford Trilogy, the first book of which is ‘Martha’s Gift’. Living in a truly rural area, it is not surprising that I am a fan of the outdoor life, and a lover of empty landscapes and wild places. Walking and backpacking have given me hours of pleasure, and in return I have spent fifteen years as a mountain rescue volunteer. I have been a beekeeper since I was eight years old: this fascinating hobby has brought surprising circumstances in its wake, even a presentation to HRH Queen Camilla (a fellow beekeeper!).
