I'm a 30 year veteran of marketing with an axe to grind. The axe? Brands matter. They make marketplaces into democracies and, given the chance, they can make capitalism accountable. I love writing about that, and about the silly, magnificent process of making a free consumer marketplace work. My first book, The Orange Code, co-authored with Arkadi Kuhlmann, studied ING Direct, a company that understood this and prospered as a result. It was a bestseller in Canada when it was published in 2009, won several business book awards and was a TED Conference reading list selection that year. With Consumer Republic, I want to take this message to Main Street, helping consumers realize the power they have and how they can use it to make positive changes in the world. Consumer Republic won Canada's prestigious National Business Book Award in 2012. I guess trying to save capitalism a little quixotic, but that's me. I'm that rarest of beasts: an idealist... with experience.
