Allen Grimes grew up in Akron, Ohio. An early reader, he became fascinated with books and stories. As a teenager, Allen would make up and perform stories using neighborhood friends as characters. After a home-based education, Allen enrolled at the University of Akron, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in mass media communication. Allen's first jobs were in radio news, working for stations such as WHBC in Canton and WKSU in Kent, Ohio. In 1989, Allen became a patrol officer for the Akron Police Department, receiving four commendations for actions above and beyond the call of duty. Six years later, Allen became a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, working on various violations, including narcotics, organized crime, and public corruption. Allen received numerous awards, including three Quality Step Increases and four incentive awards. After nine years as a first-line agent, Allen became a supervisor, rising to Unit Chief at the Strategic Information Operation Center (SIOC). Allen's final assignment was as the Supervisory Senior Resident Agent of the Yuma Resident Agency in the Phoenix Division. Allen retired in August 2015 after twenty years of service. Allen has published various short stories in the sci-fi/horror genre in magazines, such as Nightmares, Potpourri, and Lords of Eternal Darkness. Allen's novel credits include The Face of the Deep and The Wicked Shall Rot, both featuring Akron Police Detective, Robert Fontenot, the Ghosts of Lake Hope, and the horror thriller When the Lantern Swings was released on July 02, 2024, by New Link Publishing. When the Pieces Fall, the thrilling sequel to When the Lantern Swings, was released on April 16, 2025. Allen is a recipient of the Marilyn Meredith Award for Excellence in Fiction and the Gold Medallion for Best Fiction Book-Suspense Thriller from the Public Safety Writers Association. Allen is a former running back for the University of Akron football team, a tennis pro, and a USTA Official. Allen Grimes lives and works in Yuma, Arizona, with his wife, Dr. Deltrina Grimes.
