Dr. Peaceman attended medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He then completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Virginia, and a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of Texas in Houston. He joined the faculty of the Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1989 and practiced at Prentice Women’s Hospital of Northwestern until 2022. In those 33 years he cared for patients with a wide range of obstetric complications and delivered thousands of infants. In 2007 he was named the Friends of Prentice Distinguished Physician. In 2012, Dr. Peaceman received the Jonas Salk Health Leadership Award from the March of Dimes for his contributions to the field of Obstetrics and for his care of high-risk patients. Dr. Peaceman’s leadership roles have included Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and then Chief of Obstetrics for Prentice Women’s Hospital, one of the largest volume maternity hospitals in the country. In this role he led a team that innovated new care practices, reduced adverse events, improved patient satisfaction, and was recognized by his peers as a resource for questions regarding high-risk situations. Over the years he has been instrumental in teaching obstetric care to hundreds of resident physicians, fellows, and medical students, winning the best teacher award multiple years. He has been a prolific researcher with over 200 publications in scientific journals, 11 of which were in the New England Journal of Medicine. His research was funded by NIH grants beginning in 2001. He has been an invited speaker at medical conferences all over the United States and in Europe, Asia, and South America, and was a featured speaker at multiple national symposia for audiences of other obstetricians. Other contributions to the medical literature include chapters in 8 different books, among them Protocols for High-Risk Pregnancies, and Medical Disorders in Obstetric Practice.
