How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read

Although some of the plot points can seem slightly contrived Edward Marston's books are never less than enjoyable. I generally read them at least twice and they are a real race through the time of The Conqueror. I think the background detail is good - certainly in respect of how easily, or otherwise, various cities fell to the Norman march - but it doesn't overwhelm the narrative. It is interesting to note how the landscape and wildlife was so very different in 1086 from today.
The characters can seem a bit modern at times with their areas of concern but it is a small thing.
I have yet to pick up one of Mr Marston's books that I haven't enjoyed.

Strongly written contribution to the series by a author of proven ability in the field of historical crime. Great story, good plotting and characters within the set time period, enjoyable local detail for this near-Exeter resident. Will be chasing up others in the series. Item arrived in good time, excellent condition and within approporiate packaging.

5.0 out of 5 stars This series continues with aplomb

This is another brilliant story to continue the series. The plot has the royal commissioners having to Rangel another set of mysteries before they can complete their task of solving more land disputes.

4.0 out of 5 stars good plot

A good plot. It was one of the first by Edward Marston. I do like his easy to read style with emphasis on the characters. I also like the fact that he sets each story in a different county so If you know the area you know where you are. If not you can learn and when passing through or at the place you can envisage the characters being there.

4.0 out of 5 stars A FINE TALE FROM THE DOOMSDAY SERIES
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 December 2012

Being an avid Edward Marston fan I really enjoyed this book and I am sure that historical novels fans will think the same. There is just one reservation - the Doomsday series of books do have a similar thread to the stories and that is why I award it four stars. However, this should not detract from an excellent tale which you won't want to put down.
