5.0 out of 5 stars What a revelation
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 April 2021
Thank you Russell. I have been listening to this book over the last few days and keep coming back to it and thinking 'yes'. Yes to what he has to say about life, about spirituality and about the system we find ourselves in.
I love hearing other people's stories and Russel is a good storyteller who not only tells his own stories well but shares others too.

Usually my biggest issue with listening to audiobooks is that the narrator gets in the way of the story but Russell has a voice that is soothing to listen to. I have to admit that sometimes while listening I would find myself simply listening to the cadence of his voice and then having to go back and listen to the words.

This 'book' has genuinely made me laugh, cry and think about what we are doing as humans - and where we want to be as a society. I stopped listening only to write this review because I want others to know it was worth signing up to Audible for. Now I am going to go and listen to the rest. Thank you again Russell. X

5.0 out of 5 stars Is Russell Brand resurrecting what Nietzsche once claimed dead...?
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 April 2021
In our Post-Religious, Post-Capitalism (individualism at the expense of the collective) Post Socialism (collectivism at the expense of the individual), Pre-Quantum world, where the dominant legacy systems have simply become digitised versions of outdated binary rationale, Russell offers an honest alternative perspective by reclaiming the importance of the sacred. A much needed remedy.
Russell's superfast mind bursts forth with his usual whimsy-witty stylings that makes the listener feel engaged - his humble heart on sleeve and self deprecating approach is both warming and intimate.
For so many of us, the use of words like "God" "Sacred" Spiritual" conjure a fear of ridicule from our cultural Marxist smug academic elite, so it is a valiant act for any of us to use these words whilst remaining objective and intellectually credible. Russell achieves this in abundance - inviting us to reassess ourselves instead taking the default path of least resistance and assessing others!
Through some well selected quotes from an eclectic mix enlightened and inspirational thinkers, along with his own personal experiences, he playfully highlights the value of transcending the suffocating limitations of our modern lives to reawaken the dormant qualities of our divine nature without fear of judgement.
This Audiobook should be regarded as a useful support tool for those seekers who feel there is something more, and are either already looking, or, are ready to start to look within and ignite their own divine spark.
However, this this audiobook would probably be best ignored by those who are foolish enough to believe they already know all the answers...!!

Thank you Russell - for this gentle nudge in the right direction. Please keep up "The Great Work" as it would seem that right now - "The Force" is truly with you! 😉

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting listen, beautifully narrated
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 April 2021
Russell covers various sub-topics (12 steps, addiction, death to name a few) under this series of spirituality and what that means. All while touching on his own experiences and past. The audible series was great to listen to with his great turn of phrase mixed with his humour and raised some interesting thinking points.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

The author speaks with a very monotone intonation... which makes the story slightly difficult to follow with attention.

Yes, he's a mad bollix, but this is a great, reflective and honest volume, thoroughly enjoyable whilst sneakily planting genuine seeds of curiosity

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to listen to - voice too punchy and intrusive
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 August 2021
Found it difficult to listen to this, as Russell's voice was too punchy and the text quite verbose. Content wasn't able to sink into my mind as a result. Got to the end of Chapter 2 and couldn't remember what I'd listened to. Sometimes a book in the hand is better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Verbosity
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2021
Verbosity at its finest. Whatever the content (and some of his experience is worth listening to) his presentation comes across as arrogant. It doesn’t bother me but if you’re sensitive to arrogance this won’t be pleasant listening.
