Okay, so these are not "Literature" with a capital "L". They are, however, clever mysteries with delightful characters, a charming seaside village setting and just the right amount of tastefully written romance. I quite enjoyed them and will continue to purchase the novels when/if the series continues.
Book 1 Ok not the normal genre I read but wow. This was fun. Cookies James us an FBI agent on extended leave . She runs a small Inn called the secret seal Isle with her mom and has a hot handy man around. Things get crazy when her hippy mom Finds a dead body. Cookie has to call in her old partner in the FBI to investigate when the local cops don't plan to do anything. I love the mystery on this well written and funny story. New Corpse in Town (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries #1) This is a very nice suspenseful but relaxing read. I love most of the characters as they are very nicely developed, and I am looking forward to reading more about them. The main female protagonist, Cookie is fun, outgoing, smart and interesting character. Then we have a mysterious handyman Dylan who is just fabulous. And we have Hunter, Cookie's ex partner from the FBI, who is not very likable here, arrogant with overly high opinion of himself. Cookie's mother is a blast and definitely my favourite. I hope to see more of her in future books. The plot and pace are very nice and it is easy just to get lost in the book. There is some romance as well and it is well laid out for the sequel. Life in the Dead Lane (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries #2) I loved this book, and since Hunter wasn't as irritating as in the first one, I can easily give it five stars. Again, it is a suspenseful but relaxing read. I love the characters and their development. Cookie is sharp, smart, and strong, and slightly confused about men in her life. There was a little bit less Dylan in this book but what we did see was a blast from his mysterious past. Hunter was much nicer than before. Cookie's mom, Rain was just hilarious, and now backed up by her best friend Winter. Their contribution was so funny and I really want to see more of them. There is more interaction with the coroner Dr. Delgado, who is also quite funny and nice. There is an array of supporting characters and I hope to see more of them in future books. We get to take a tour of the Isle and it is wonderful. I would definitely like to go and visit and stay at Cookie's inn. The plot and pace are very nice and it is easy just to get lost in the book, just like with the first one. This is the third book in the series and the best one so far and I have a feeling that the next ones will get even better. The writing is superb, as well as the character development and the world building. Cookie is a fantastic character, at times a bit confused, which only adds to her charm. Other times she is all business, seasoned former FBI investigator, and even better when paired with her former FBI partner Hunter. Their chemistry is amazing, especially in the field. Hunter's development on the other hand went from annoying protective macho type in the first book, to a lovable strong partner over the course of the next two books, but one thing never changed, and that is how much he cares for Cookie and how much she can rely on him and his help. Dylan was featured a bit less than in the previous two books, or at least it felt that way. Maybe it feel like that because he remains a mystery, reluctant to divulge any details about himself or his past. I have a feeling that his time is either coming or he will be slowly phased out. I am curious either way, as the writers left so many possibilities and option for the story development. As much as I am curious about him, I won't be sorry to see him go if that happens, as this mysteriousness and his reluctance to open up and talk about himself is a bit annoying, especially because he insists to know secret details about Cookie. And then there is Rain, Cookie's mom, is still one of the best characters ever created. She is hilarious and lovely and out of control and pure joy to be around. This book features her in great amount and that was probably one of the reasons I liked it more than previous books. There are three more books in the series: Any Way You Bury It (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 4), Death is in the Air (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 5) and Signed, Sealed, Fatal, I'm Yours (Secret Seal Isle Mysteries Book 6). This is my absolute favourite cozy mystery series, it is only getting better, and I highly recommend it.
