4.0 out of 5 stars Great Listen, Would Have Liked More

I didn't know this was around and was disappointed that I hadn't found it earlier as I'm a real fan of the Peter Grant series. I was even happier to find it was free, so thank you for that!

PC Grant is called to the British Library to investigate a suspected poltergeist and finds out something much more curious. It was witty and true to the Folly canon and I would loved to have heard more about the cunning device and it was a shame that it was so short.

I liked the reader, I thought his voice matched my idea of Grant well, the only thing I would have liked to know was where it was placed in the Folly stories, before or after the last book, The Hanging Tree.

2.0 out of 5 stars An audio book, A Peter Grant novella

I have all the Rivers of London series which I thoroughly enjoyed. This novella is based in the same magical world of DC Peter Grant . But! This novella is like a sampler for the publisher. It starts well enough and the reader is good. Its failing and the reason it only gets two stars is that it ends before the story finishes. OK I will admit that because the audio book was free I haven't lost anything or even feel cheated. But I thought the narrative had further to go. Its as though the author got fed up with it or was out ideas, which is a shame. If this was your introduction to the world of DC Peter Grant the you may well not read any others, that would be a loss.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like police work.

Interesting premise, but over far too fast.

Yes, .. it's free, and yes I shouldn't really complain, but come on: these cleverly crafted snippets should have been bound up as several plot twists in the existing Books.

Oh' - they were cut out to save space?
Oh' - they were cut out cos the Author thought they dragged the plot down?
Oh' -- OK then.

Worth it nevertheless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling listening

I listened to this whilst confined to bed and going slowly stir crazy. I found it compelling listening, although the story was somewhat less than believable - but then most fiction is. The delivery was excellent.

I didn't have to pay for this as I think it was included in my Prime subscription but even if I had paid for it I would have been satisfied with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great short story

A great shot story from the Peter Grant universe. As usually, not every thread was finished, and while that may seem a little unsatisfying, I rather like it, as it makes the stories seem more real.

2.0 out of 5 stars Really well read but where is the rest of it?

I love the Rivers of London, I am even in the process of adding the graphic novels out my collection. I feel that they need a bit more depth and padding but at least they are complete. This is almost like it's a chapter from a story but they lost the rest of the book. You get to the end and think "so what?". It is really well read and it's almost like what I imagine PC Grant would sound like.

4.0 out of 5 stars A little too brief

More fun in the "Rivers of London" world. Great to listen to, but it just felt ten minutes too short to me, as if the ending had been wrapped up in a hurry.

3.0 out of 5 stars Engaging but unfinished.

I loved the story and the narrator, I would just have liked to know more.... where did the harp come from, where did it want to go? Brighton for the Baroque festival perhaps, St. Chatiers for the early music? How did it communicate? It reminded me at first of the “luggage”, lots of little feet and perhaps it is sapient pear wood. MORE, Please!
