A fantastic read and can wholeheartedly say I enjoyed every page. Interesting characters in an interesting world with a plot that keeps you saying "just one more page" then before you know it it's 2am!
R B Watkinson is a terrific storyteller. First of all she creates characters you care about. Then she puts them in a fast-moving plot which, although set in a fantasy world, evidences her knowledge of historical and geopolitical events. All this she does with an assured and pleasing literary style. I look forward to the second part of the Wefan Weaves series.
The book is a good read. The characters are interesting, you learn a lot about them in the first half of the book which makes the action in the second half all that more enjoyable. Second half of the book was tense with some griping stuff in places. There is a lot of set up for the next book which i look forward to seeing, as i feel this world she has made has a lot to offer.
Wefan is a powerful force. It is a thread of energy, and for those with born with Wealdan running through their veins a force which can be manipulated. But gifts are not the only thing that come with such power. There is a religious order known as the blood priests who seek the return of Murak, and consuming the blood of those with Wealdan gives them unimaginable strength, bringing them ever closer to their goal of plunging the world into oppression and war.
The Cracked Amulet follows the trials of Coryn and Katleya as they try to fulfil their purposes, without falling prey to those who hunt them. It has some brilliant scenes, drawing a reader's focus, and the politics and world setting are well explained. The first part of the book is slower paced than the second half, and there are events that will leave you thinking. The two protagonists grow and develop throughout, and there are some interesting twists. It was a good read, obviously a lot of consideration was put into the creation of the world, and the plot itself.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
