Carter is widower with a small 3 year old son. He is deep in grief when Anna, the young teenaged daughter of his neighbour, appears and offers to work for him. She sorts out the house, his son, their clothes and cleans, washes, cooks and looks after the little boy walking in each day several miles to do so. Why? Well the silly little fool is in love with him that's why. She weathers his grief and utter surliness as well as his total lack of appreciation until eventually he so called falls in love with him. Well if the way Carter behaves is love then I'm a Martian but who am I to argue with a woman. He has some weird notion that he must court her if he is to marry her so tells her in the most ham fisted way she is not to come any more and then is bewildered and offended that she takes umbrage. Oh dear that is a serious crime in this oaf's book and before he even consummates their marriage he informs her he is going to take a strap to her. Yes she is bewildered too and so was I. The first part where Anna nurses Carter out of his grief is well done but the second half was very strange to say the least.
I loved this sweet sexy story. The characters are alive and human. The relationship grows between Anna and recently widowed Carter is sweet. The love Anna has for Paddy is lovely. This is a story of understanding of grief and love.
This is a nice romance set in the old west of a young girl falling in love with an older man. Anna no longer feels she needs to finish school and wants to help her farmer/cowboy neighbour (recently made a widower) with his young son and his housekeeping. Carter slowly realises his feelings for the innocent girl are changing from employer to someone who whats more from their relationship. He wants to love and protect her which includes a D/s exchange. But it doesn't all go smoothly. Emotions run high when Anna thinks Carter has sent her away. But everything ends happily including the one thing Carter has wanted to do with Anna's hair-to unbraid her plaits and see the lustre in seeing the hair fall loose down Anna's back. A good read.
Anna goes to work for Carter after the death of his wife and Anna slowly helps Carter to overcome his grief. The book covers a fairly long period of time as Carter learns to deal with his grief, then slowly begins to fall in love with Anna. I felt so sad for Carter who is initially struggling to function and trying to hold things together for his son who is very confused about where his mother is.
Anna is determined to bring back the Carter she remembers; Anna could be quite amusing and sometimes reckless.
This was a really sweet story and I really enjoyed it.
