I'm normally really pretty good at spotting who dunnits fairly early on.. and I'm rarely wrong. however this one had me hopping about all over the place. the characters and plot well perceived and written and enjoyable to read. I'll definitely read more by this author.

This is a truly unique addictive chilling thriller #CLTaylor has done it again bringing us a brilliant story that makes you feel on edge & claustrophobic it wouldn't be a #CLTaylor book without her now famous final twist in the tale sleep is a gripping unputdownable book filled with twists and turns it's a book that keeps you guessing till the very end I wanted the book to keep going as I was really enjoying it I loved the story the plot the setting of the book was creepy if not chilling with characters that are unpredictable once i finished the book the story kept going in my head but it's jumped ahead 10 years the books been passed down so to speak the legacy will continue you will know what I mean once you've read the book I can't rate this book highly enough with a C.L Taylor book you are always guaranteed a story that grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go until the final twist has played out!
Having bought and read all of CL Taylor's books I think this may well be my last. The first 3 were excellent but the last two have been really poor. There is a sexist theme running through the first 5 books where central male figures were abusive, awful characters. I was pleased that this changed in Sleep but the first female 'villain' was painted as more misunderstood than evil. I did finish it and it was easy to read but I was sadly not thrilled at any point and having heard about the 'big twist', I'm still wondering what that was as there was very little twist or surprise in the whole book. On a brighter note, my teen children are looking forward to the next YA thriller :)
2014 - THE ACCIDENT - Excellent 2015 - THE LIE - Excellent 2016 - THE MISSING - Excellent 2017 - THE ESCAPE - A big disappointment 2018 - THE FEAR - Littered with errors, very frustrating 2019 - SLEEP - probably an improvement but as BB King said - the thrill has gone!
There are shades to a classic Agatha Christie style whodunnit with a number of strangers thrown together in a remote location, one of them apparently with motive and intent to murder the lead protagonist. There are unexpected twists and turns and a few red herrings as we learn more about who each of the characters is and how they might be connected to the heroine. It is an action-packed book with a bevy of richly-drawn characters and great descriptions that effortlessly conjure images of the locations in the reader’s mind. Great stuff.
Crime fiction is not necessarily my genre of choice; however, I am the perfect audience for crime writers. I never see the ending coming.
Sleep by CL Taylor is one of the few crime/thriller books that I will probably read this year but if any story was going to get me reading more then this would be the one.
The majority of the story is set in a secluded hotel (already it had me creeped out) on an island that is difficult to get to or get off for that matter. It has a cast of characters that all seem to have secrets. One of them is the killer and we need to figure out who before it is too late.
I honestly loved Sleep. I would have read it in one sitting but everyone in my house was going to bed and I was that freaked out I couldn’t read the rest. I know I am no expert in this genre but CL Taylor seems to have mastered the craft.
If you like crime dramas then Sleep is the perfect book for you.
Sleep is the first and last book I read by C L Taylor. One third of the book and you already know who is the killer. The red herrings are white cods, so easy to spot that there is no surprise at all.
I am giving 2 stars because I finished it: I just wanted to know if I was right. I was right. Avoid this rubbish and go for Val McDermit or any other good writer. Big sky by Kate Atkinson will be released soon.
C.l.taylor has done it again another book that I love still doesn’t beat my favourite the lie, but sleep had a different feel to the rest of the books I have read. it was a more who did it story who I figured out quite quickly even though I did change my mind a few times. Anna blames herself for a car accident that really she didn’t course and the death of 2 people, she moved to a remote island but someone blames her for the car accident and wants to kill her, the only thing I didn’t find believe was Anna put two and two together quite quickly it would of took me ages or not even figure it out at all, but a great book to read after a year of no reading got my palate going for more books x
