Listening to The New Bottoming Book was such a deeply moving experience for me, I did find it amusing that the narrator sounds like a sweet grandma, but it took what I thought would be a simple guide and turned it into this breathtaking celebration of trust, care, and emotional connection. The way the authors honor the dynamic between tops and bottoms is just so beautiful, completely shattering the myth that bottoming is about being powerless. Instead, it frames surrendering as a choice rooted in pure agency, self-responsibility, and incredible strength. I was so touched by how much reverence there is for mutual respect, trust, affection, and the vulnerability required on both sides to create something safe and sacred. It left me feeling so seen, empowered, and deeply moved.

I read "The New Topping Book" first and just had to continue my journey with this gem of a book. So inspiring, fun, eye-opening and amazing. I recommend it to everyone and an extra point is given to the authors who narrate the book themselves.

This is the classic text in learning about being a BDSM bottom. If you’ve any interest in BDSM - as a bottom, switch, top or anything else - is strongly urge you to read this book. As well as gently explaining the most important issues clearly and compellingly, it helps to demystify BDSM and remove any lingering internalised BDSM stigma we may have. The one caveat here is the chapter on HIV is rather out of date. It was written before PrEP, Treatment as Prevention and U=U (a quick google will tell you what that all means if you don’t know) which are game changers. Although following their advice will still keep you safe, some of the advice sounds slightly draconian even though it was entirely accurate back in the 2010’s.

Overall, if you are thinking about, starting or doing BDSM please do yourself a favour and read this book (and their accompanying Topping book). It will make your play SO much better, safer and hotter, and it might even save your life.

I found the book very informative and useful. There are some parts that are perhaps a bit outdated (yet retain their relevance), like the part about the internet. The final chapter, I found a bit 'airy-fairy' and irrelevant. Overall, I strongly recommend it to anyone interested in BDSM (including tops, this book pairs very well with The New Topping Book)

I really like the tone of the book: it's so grounded and practical and sensual and fun. It's filled to the absolute rafters with information but not in an overwhelming way... It gave me some valuable insight into my own previous experiences and made me feel optimistic and excited about future experiences.
