I’m enjoying the story but sadly will be a DNF on audible because of the narrator’s ridiculous cartoonish ‘toff’ voices for the male characters, especially Toven. He sounds like a constipated Boris Johnson. Really took me out of the story and can’t imagine wanting to listen to him in any kind of romantic story line so I’ll be finishing this in print…

Enjoying the story but not the narrator

I loved this book and am still thinking about it after finishing it last week.

Looking forward to the next one.

Incredible

Loved the entire story,.. though was somewhat irritated at constant flashbacks to the past at the beginning wanting the story to just move forward - however, I got used to them later on and they unveiled new parts of the story to piece together as it continued and I enjoyed them then as I got into the rhythm of how this book was written.

My main issue was the narrator's take on the main male character's voice. He sounded like a stuffed shirt, like a dopey foppish take on a Prince Harry stereotype. I felt the narrator's take on his voice didn't match the written words and this really took me out of the story and liking the character. However, that aside, really an excellent story, great characters and had me hooked from beginning to end, and I'll be reading the next one whenever it's published even if grimacing at that one character's voice.

Great Story but...

Loved the audio adaptation. The lady narrating did an incredible job. The story was intriguing and unique and matches the time it was set in. I was hooked as of chapter 5 and invested in the evolving story. Toven could be swoon worthy but he's holding back. Rose could be less innocent but shes being held back. I hope she starts to really come into her own power and can love him for all the right reasons; nothing to do with captivity. I didnt feel any 'burn' in the slow burn Romance tbh and wished we'd had a little more of the connection. Or at least a few proper answers as to why not but its a series, so it will hopefully unwind to give more clarity over the remaining books. Fingers crossed the Romance kicks in properly with book 2. Overall it was really well written and the characters were interesting and unique. I also loved the magic system and world building.
