About this listen

"What I find in my territory is mine to keep. Even if it’s a man."

Jag. Uninhibited. Possessive. Walks on the wild side.

Dane. Gentle giant. Monster lover. Plays it safe.

Dane always knew his illicit fantasies of rough sex and dangerous men would one day lead him down a path of no return, but no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t stay away.

After being beaten half to death by his ex, he wakes up in a collar, chained to a wall by a wild man who claims Dane as his property.

From the moment Jag lays his eyes on Dane, he knows he wants to keep him. Big, strong, with colorful ink all over, he is the most unique man Jag had ever seen. But Dane has to be tamed if he is to become Jag’s mate for life.

All Jag needs to do is assure Dane that he will be protected and provided for, because the sparks are already flying. But Dane keeps nagging about irrelevant things like his family, responsibilities, and the internet. No wonder Jag needs to keep him chained for longer than he expected.

The only way out for Dane is to play the role of Jag’s obedient, loving "mate", and bide his time until he can escape. But while Jag is absolutely batshit, and his junkyard den lifestyle is insanity, he also showers Dane with treats, worships the ground he walks on, and f--ks him like a monster, the way Dane always dreamed of in his most secret fantasies.

Primal is the second book in the Wrong Side of the Tracks, and brings us Jag, modern day Tarzan who rules in his junkyard jungle. Primal follows the first book Scum, but it can easily be read as a standalone. I suggest reading Scum first because it will add more layers of depth to the relationship some reoccurring characters have with each other, but the love story between Jag and Dane is completely standalone.

I loved Jag - he’s a morally gray character, but he puts 100% effort in everything he does. His complete lack of understanding of modern culture had me stifling laughs while I listened to the audiobook in public. There were so many hilarious small moments throughout this book. Dane and Jag’s relationship was incredible: from captor/prisoner to equal partners and lovers, the transformation was a wild and hard win for them both.

The audiobook was narrated by Wyatt Baker who did a fantastic job. I love Wyatt’s voice and he did not disappoint in his audiobook performance. All in all, this was an enjoyable book and listening experience.

It's scary how quickly these authors can make me fall in love with morally questionable characters, and Jag's story was no exception. Despite all his beastliness, caveman tendencies, and growliness, Jag was such a puppy around Dane. He may not have gone about courting him the conventional way, but it was obvious how hard he was trying, in his own way, to prove he was a worthy partner. I do wish this book had explored Jag's upbringing a little more, because the more I learned about it the more it put his assumptions about relationships into perspective for me. As it was, I still found it shockingly easy to see past Jag's sometimes alarming behaviors to the man desperate to love and be loved. It doesn't excuse the things he did and said, but what I loved about Jag was how hard he tried to listen and change his habits to make Dane happy. Of course, their relationship wasn't without drama. Dane and Jag had some spectacular blowups, sometimes leading to steamy romps and other time to bloody disasters. I was captivated throughout it all, and I was expecially thrilled to see more of Frank, Dex, and Shane towards the end. It was wonderful to see the way their band of friends and family rallied around them when they needed support most, and that conclusion was wild. There's no doubt in my mind that Jag and Dane found a path to be happy together, and if their insanely hot, primal lovemaking is any indicaiton, their passion is very much alive.

Another great story by KA Merikan with the perfect shade of darker story telling. Jag and Dane are fantastic characters to get to know. Wyatt Baker did an amazing job with the narration.

A sweet yet intense story. I adored Jag: he wanted a mate to love but didn’t know how to get one as he didn’t fit into the modern world.

Fantastic and I really enjoyed it.

The book was interesting. I haven't read the previous volume, but Primal can be read or listened to as a standalone.
K.A Merikan managed to make me like the morally gray character of Jag. He grew up unconventional and sometimes he acts like a real caveman, but he puts a lot of effort into what he does. Especially when it comes to Dane, he wants to do everything right and that was very sweet. Because behind Jags hard shell is a soft core that just wants to be loved and believes he has found his soul mate in Dane. And the more I learned about Jags past, the more I understood why he is the way he is.
Dane goes from one difficult situation to another. His relationship with Jag is like an up and down ride. There are heated arguments, hot love scenes, but also quite catastrophes.

The story was unexpected, but exciting, intense with interesting characters, incredible chemistry between the protagonists and then humorous in between. The trip to the movies did make me smile a lot.

The audiobook was narrated by Nathan Kelly, a new audiobook narrator for me. He did a fantastic job with his pleasant voice and I could have listened to him for much longer. He gave the characters different voices and made for an entertaining listening experience.
