About this listen

‘If you can’t love me right, then love me wrong.’ My father gave me no choice. Marry his enemy to make peace. His enemy old enough to be my father, and with a penchant for leaving his partners dead.

Escape is my only option.

Using my father’s enforcer to create a diversion works, unfortunately it leaves him with a vendetta against me. Hot on my heels, he tracks me down, determined to take me home to be wed.

Little does he know that I’m not going to make it easy. Slashed tires, sliced credit cards, a burning car…But our tumultuous trip across Spain brings us both into uncharted territory. Will I end up wed to a monster, but with a broken heart too?

why did i wait so long to read this? Although, i have no regrets holding out for William MacLeod 🤭

Esther's father has arranged for her to marry the head of a rival mafia family. Harold Thompson is a monster of a man! Esther has absolutely no intention of marrying him
But first, she has to elude her families top enforcer - Alec, who has been tasked with keeping an eye on her until the big day.
The lengths she goes to, she's a smart woman.
But not smart enough 😆 Alec tracks her down, and he will return her to her family by any means possible.

I can't deny how much I enjoyed this, with the exception of 2 chapters, I read it in one sitting.
The tension and chemistry between Esther and Alec was so good.

William MacLeod voices Alec and wow, did I enjoy his narration (again) Alec already has an amazing personality but with Williams performance 🥵 I was blushing and giggling frequently throughout.

Esther is brought to life by Betty black. Her performance really emphasised Esther's bratty, sassy attitude.

effie Campbell delivers top teir spice!
The mouth on alec 🥵 believe me, everytime he said "eyes on me" I didn't know where to look - I blame William 🤣

Three side charcaters really stood out for me, I really enjoyed the relationship between Alec and Gladys, and the relationship that Esther developed with Eva and jock.

*i did tandem read this, and because of this i did realise that chapter 43 is not included in the audio - which isn't a big deal and it doesnt impact the end of esther and Alex's story but there is a tender exchange between them - so i would grab the ebook for that little extra spicy chapter 😏

i really enjoyed their story and looking forward to reading more about the McGowans and hoping for more of William - trust me when i say, effie selecting a scottish narrator, truly makes all the difference in your reading experience.

As always, please check your content before reading.

well this was a tasty treat

The book is a great debut about a runaway bride and the lengths she will go to, to avoid being married to a monster. It was a pleasure to read a book that I could relate to insofar as it starts in Scotland and the adventure takes us into Europe, places with which I am familiar, and the plot was fun too.

Esther, the FMC, is more feisty than anyone imagines and finds ingenious ways of fighting for her freedom which Alec, the MMC, finds out to his detriment when he is tasked with finding and bringing her back.

I think what I liked most was the character buliding of both the MMC and FMC. I did, however, feel that the ending was rushed and I was left wanting. I can't wait to read #2 of the series to see what is next in store and whether those issues will be ironed out.

loved it!

Are you ready for the dark and dangerous? This is a romance that will take you to the depths and it's one that will get in your head! Effie Campbell pens Esther's story, and she is on the run. Why you ask? Her father has her promised to the most loathsome of men, old and depraved, she would do anything to escape her future and that is just what she does. But her father has debts and she is the perfect payment for him to protect his boys. Sending Alec, his enforcer to retrieve her seems like the best way to get her home, but she is smart and elusive. Each time he loses her, his temper rises and his feelings strengthen. Will he be able to win her over and keep her from the hands of danger? This is packed with suspense and excitement! Yes, it's spicy, but the story is so much more than the physical. The emotions are high, even for this enforcer, and each time she slipped away, I smiled and cheered her on. It's a great start to this dark mafia series and I cannot wait for more.

Betty Black is Esther with all the spunk and energy she has! I love her voice, it's got that edge of feistiness to take on whatever she has to. William Macleod is Alec, and he is has that tone of danger and edge of passion. I loved these two together, as their feelings built, as the running led the thrilling suspense and the happiness they found. It's a great listen.

Dark & Dangerously erotic!
