About this listen

In the vibrant city of Atlantic City, a seemingly mismatched duo finds their lives unexpectedly intertwined. Abigail, a girl accustomed to modest circumstances, finds herself in a surprising situation when she is hired to care for Jonathan Franklin, a wealthy and captivating bachelor.

As Abigail navigates her role as a caretaker for a man who seemingly has it all, she discovers that beneath Jonathan's polished exterior lies a yearning for something more profound than material success. Both Abigail and Jonathan are confronted with the realization that happiness cannot be bought but must be found within.

In a whirlwind of life-altering events, their worlds are turned upside down, forcing them to confront their own preconceptions and prejudices. As they embark on a transformative journey together, unexpected emotions surface, creating a connection that defies societal norms and expectations.

Join Abigail and Jonathan on an enchanting journey of personal growth, friendship, and the serendipitous nature of love. In a world where destiny often defies our expectations, they discover that sometimes, the most profound connections occur when we least expect them.

When the book started I couldn’t stand the female narrators voice. She grew on me. Abigail Jonathan’s story is predictable but lovely. A will they won’t they story. I like a bit more spice in my books but that is personal preference. Gave me all the feels though! Ends on a cliff hanger which is always frustrating.

Loved the narration from Freya Victoria

Abigail was Jonathan’s office cleaner, never noticed until asked to settle a disagreement. Shocked to be asked her opinion, but Jonathan is more surprised by her answer.
When Jonathan sees what is in front of him he asked Abigail the position of assistant. Not able to say no as the perks are great and the job is no hardship.
Oh nothing is trouble free. Making the two of them start to own up to their feeling

Ohh that cliffhanger ahhhh.

Narrator Freya Victoria
The voices at the beginning grated a little bit but I felt it improved as the story progressed. The range of characterisation was OK although I wasn't sure sometimes who was talking.

Story
Abigail isn't appreciated by most people in her life, her brother, boss, or mum, the men in particular a*holes. She accepts a job as Jonathan's friend/sounding board, even evicting the women Jonathan has had sex with the following morning while he hides away in his office. Their relationship develops and he starts to develop more romantic feelings for Abigail but has drunken sex with Eva the day before he confesses his feelings for Abigail. What made me groan "Oh for heaven's sake" was that she is a virgin at 26. Abigail and Jonathan have sex but she wakes up alone which is Jonathan's style. Abigail has doubts that Jonathan is serious about their relationship. Eva tries to destroy Abigail and Jonathan's relationship in different ways.

Her mum has been lying about Abigail's dad and it turns out he isn't a drunk layabout but the CEO of a major company. Abigail goes to see her mum and finds her dad there and discovers the truth. Abigail is overwhelmed with the discovery and her feelings for Jonathan, so she goes to the pub. In the meantime, Jonathan has discovered Eva's latest plot and confronts her at the same pub. Eva tells Jonathan she loves him and throws herself at him kissing him. Abigail sees the kiss, runs out of the pub, gets hit by a car and suffers broken bones and a head injury. Abigail is put into a coma, wakes up with amnesia losing two years of her life which is the entire time she has known Jonathan. End of book - cliffhanger

Lots of use of the word sarcastic throughout the book (it's irritating). In shock and smirked is used quite a bit too.

I didn't like that it's a cliffhanger and I started not to care about the characters. I like knowing the endings so I may check out the next book in Kindle version so I can skim it but I will not bother if it doesn't finish at book two. Sorry but I found it a struggle to get through after chapter ten.
