The story itself was a solid 3 - I liked the 50/50 POV split, however some of the chapters were really short and the POV would go back and forth in the same scene which lost a little of my engagement. I liked Jax and Sofia but I felt the chemistry never really got back to that initial few chapters and I also struggled with Anna - her character was just a massive contradiction she seemed to have a personality change from one chapter to the next. I absolutely loved Nikolai, Alexei, Mikhail and Lara though - they were so much fun whenever they breezed in! I'd love to see more of them in the series.
My interpretation of the star system;
3 stars - I enjoyed it; would read the author again
4 stars - I really liked it; I am invested and definitely want more from this author/series
5 stars - I loved it; I engaged with this book completely until I finished it and it is one I will re-read
Great performances

Before I got the audio for this I had already read the book and loved it, but the narrators just takes it to another level.
Jax the 'king of chaos' is bad boy motor bike riding boxer, who just happens to be part of the Bràtva.
Desperately trying to work out how to come to terms with the death of his best friend Kai, he struggles with constant reminders of his loss, and is consumed with guilt trying anything to block out the pain that he feels as it slowly consumes him and throughout the story you have a ringside seat to how this affects his mental health.
But one night before Jax is due to leave New York forever to start a new job with the Russians in Vegas he decides to attend Brody his half brother’s wedding only to bump into the bride running away from said wedding after finding out that Brody her new husband is a cheater.
Having instant chemistry and wanting to feel something other than pain and betrayal they decide that spending one no strings attached night together with help as they believe they will never see one another again come morning.
Fast forward two years later and Sofia has moved to Vegas and takes a job as a dancer while trying to make ends meet, and a chance encounter with her cheating ex at his bachelor party see comes face to face again with the man she has never been able to forget with a good reason.
Jax decides that he isn’t going to let Sofia get away again, because for the first time since Kai’s death that one night left him feeling alive, and when she lets him on her secret he realises that this is all he has ever wanted, but their growing relationship and happiness is pushed to breaking point by outside forces leaving Jax hitting rock bottom mentally and dangerous close to the edge and Sofia trying to work out how she never saw the signs.
This part of the story is sensitive and beautifully well written and shows how men’s mental wellbeing is so important and isn’t a weakness. Jax’s darkness and struggles bleed off the page and will break your heart as to how real it is.
Sofia is Jax’s saving grace, and even after life has beaten her down on numerous occasions she knows what she wants and frights to save it, making Jax realise that there is help and that even with all his believed flaws and demons he is loved unconditionally.
It wouldn’t be a Luna Mason book if there weren’t any major twist and turns and this certainly keeps you on your toes and with the added sprinkling of Mikhail, Nikolai and Alexei had me engrossed from start to finish as the story unfolds at a fast pace.
This book and its characters are so written and with such thought and feeling that their struggles you can easily relate to in real life and add the exceptional audio I cannot recommend this enough.
Just so good!
