Andy Boyd thinks he is the luckiest man alive. Widowed with a young child after his wife dies in childbirth, he is certain that he will never again experience true love. Then he meets Anna. Feisty, fun and beautiful, she's his perfect match.... And she loves his son, too.

When Andy ends up in the hospital on his wedding night, he receives his first clue that Anna is not all that she seems. He ignores it; a dangerous mistake that could cost him everything. A brave, deeply moving psychological thriller which marks a stunning departure for one of Scotland's top crime writers.

This was a difficult listen but there was an authentic tone to Andy's problems with Anna. It was very well narrated but I thought the ending was rather contrived although overall a good listen.

What a nail biting storyline, the narrator made the most of expressing the tensions and fears just enough to keep you on the edge of your seat

Excellent

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

YES, couldn't wait to finish and was so disappointed when I did because the story grips from the beginning and oddly it is so well performed that Steven Cree sounds exactly like David Tennant and could visualise the whole thing. Loved it

What does Steven Cree bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Superb narration, he just sounds exactly like David Tennant and so is easy to visualise as the bank manager; his wife is read by someone easy to visualise too

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

YES, absolutely but so disappointed when it ended - not that the ending is disappointing, it is excellent but I couldn't re-listen

Any additional comments?

Will definitely look for this author's work in future. Brilliantly written and from an unusual perspective.

Brilliant story, very well told

great story, great narration. domestic abuse ,the escalation of the hurt, humiliation and the subsequent shame of the victim was handled sympathetically in this well written, well plotted story. The impact on work, extended family and the children were expertly woven into the story of a strong and popular man and the tragedy in his life.

fabulously dark

A brilliant and witty and real look into the world of the battered man. Sad and compelling story of one man's struggle with violence. Its effect and how it's viewed. Brilliantly read with feeling and warmth. A great listen to. 😊

Brilliant. A depiction of the modern man
