My son (5) has been listening to this whilst in the bath recently and you can see the joy in his eyes as he listens.
He thinks Chitty Chitty ..Show More »Bang Bang is the best name for a car and is mesmerised by the idea that the car can be real with its own personality and be as much a part of the family as the people themselves.
The story is excellently read by David Tennant, although I'm not sure why he is reading with an English accent and not his native Scottish one. Sometimes older books can date/age and be less accessible to children today. This book has aged well; the language isn't too difficult or wordy and the overall ideas still resonate.
I was a bit worried when I saw that there were sequels to the original Ian Fleming book but I needn't have worried. Frank Cottrell-Boyce draws a line..Show More » somewhere between the original and the film and brings us bang up to date with a bit of James Bond homage thrown in.
My six year old son thoroughly enjoyed it. There are plenty of cliff hangers and David Tennant's narration is great (again).
