Wonderful characterisation throughout this novel. This is especially true of the main character, Inspector Vera Stanhope. I have absolutely no doubts..Show More » that all readers/listeners will find themselves so intrigued by her and the unusual and very clever depiction of this gloriously ordinary yet brilliant woman.
Excellent thriller and so well written it is guaranteed to draw you in and keep you wanting more!
Totally fabulous narrator in Anne Dover as well. Pity she doesn't narrate ALL of these books. Don't let the doubly obvious play on names here put you off. You'll miss a really great book if you do.
I loved the fact that this book was read by a Geordie. It was perfect!
The story wasn't filled with car chases and gun shots or superfit tanned..Show More » and toned hunks....It had really believable characters based around Tyneside.
The main detective is an overweight and lonely forty-something woman with her own troubles, past and present. But I liked her, even though she sounded like a real pain to have as a boss!!
Maybe there happened to be a few too many amazing coincidences for the plot to be believed..... but it held my attention all the way through.
I love the series Vera so I bought this book and I wasn't disappointed. You really get in to the characters and places. I love the narrator Charlie H..Show More »ardwicks voice and it's great that she is a geordie as after watching Vera it wouldn't sound right in any other accent.
