Well performed. Confusing story timeline. The timeline/date relevance gets lost in the audio version and the author just cannot seem to decide which c..Show More »haracters/situations are important and which are background colour.
Like a satellite in a decaying orbit I felt pulled back to this series despite my misgivings over the first book. I’m obviously more tuned in now bec..Show More »ause I really, really enjoyed this one. It’s classic space opera with much action and some truly macabre moments. The scene in the drainage tunnel of the Alien ship is particularly gut wrenching – you’ll know the one when you get to it! It’s scenes like that which capture some of the claustrophobic tension of the early Alien films and really raised this book up to a five star billing.
The misgivings that I mentioned reviewing the previous book didn’t completely go away but, and I have to admit this, they really didn’t stop me enjoying this one at all. The narration of the female characters seemed to pick up a little and now that I am more used to the role of the monsters I’m getting into it. The back story works well and the plot is very fast-moving with lots and lots of action.
Of course this is a series so we’re kept waiting for the conclusion until the final part. Don’t let that put you off, there is lots of action in this and the plot does develop at a cracking pace. There are a few new characters who add to the depth of the story and develop additional sub-plots of their own. We are left at the end with everything perfectly poised for a final cataclysmic war to decide humanity's fate.
So, despite my misgivings I think this is a cracker of a sci-fi action book and I shall certainly be completing this series!
I NEVER do spoilers in my reviews !!!! So can,t go into too much detail.......BUT, suffice to say that this book is an EPIC FINALE, to the Rage War Tr..Show More »ilogy !!! I feel also that the ending has definitely left the door open for follow-on books !?! I am a HUGE Fan of Tim Lebbon, from these Alien storyline books, to his Star Wars books & if course his Own fantasy books (*like "The Fallen" !!) And I look eagerly forward to future books by him !!! John Chancer is a FANTASTIC Narrator, & was possibly the best choice for this Trilogy, his voice changes for the different characters was excellent & really helps define each character in the book !! I will definitely look for more books that he has narrated in future purchases !!!! This is NOT a stand-alone novel, the preceding books are a MUST in order to enjoy them all to Their fullest !!! This Trilogy is also a MUST, for Fans of either the Alien storyline &or Predator storyline !!!! And I leave desperately hoping for more................
